The most common species of cockroach is the German Cockroach. They are found all over the world. Since they are amazing hitchhikers, they can travel from place to place very easily. They love to travel in bags, cardboard boxes, furniture, appliances, and so much more.

How did I get roaches?

Roaches can pretty much come from anywhere. They can hitchhike home with you from a friend’s house, the store, garage sales, hotels, air planes; pretty much any where you go, you can accidentally pick up one of these insects. These guys prefer moisture, warmth and a good food source. Cockroaches will feed on pretty much anything, including crumbs of food, food left in the sink, trash, uncommon things such as toothpaste, glue, book bindings, wallpaper glue, and even soap. Roaches tend to hang out in bathrooms, kitchens and around trash cans.

Signs of an infestation.

If you suspect you may have roaches, you will need to be checking areas they will be hiding or traveling. Roaches will leave droppings that look like pepper. You will see the droppings around small holes/cracks or openings in the walls, along the tops of doors or cabinets, in the corners of the room or in the corners of your cabinets, and behind appliances along the baseboards. Another thing you may start seeing is their egg capsules. The female roaches will carry them for a few days before dropping the case. Each egg case can have 30 to 40 eggs inside. She can lay 4 to 6 egg cases during her lifetime which, can end up being around 240 new roaches. If you have a severe infestation you will notice they give off a “musty” odor. Our technicians know the signs and the areas to check for these pesky bugs.

How do I get rid of them?

If you have roaches, you will need to constantly make sure any food source is cleaned up or eliminated. Keeping the trash emptied every day, making sure there is no food left in the sink or in the garbage disposal, try to keep dishes cleaned or rinsed of no food residue, making sure you clean around appliances, all food containers are sealed and have no rips/tears/holes to allow food to get out, any food bowls for your pets will need to be picked up and not left out, and to sweep/mop and vacuum daily.

Our technician will go over a pest management plan with you and then will do a treatment of the home. Roaches can multiply quickly and go from only a few to hundreds in a few weeks. This is why it is important to have a technician come out to access the situation, get started with a pest management plan and start treating as soon as you see the first signs of roaches.
